Work at a Sweatshop. Manage your factory workers to meet the quota for the day.
Reviewer: Cherie G. Title: Sweatshop
Sweatshop is a game that has been a huge eye-opener for me. It is about the outsourcing industry especially with regards to the production of fashion items (hats, bags, shirts, and shoes). It is a fun and challenging game, alright, but it also carries a larger message.
The player (you) take the place of a training manager of a clothing production. Each level is a different challenge for you and the rest of the factory workers. Your primary objective is to meet the quota quickly without damaging the clothing. You are responsible for optimizing the workers on the factory floor.
The game does not whitewash the sweatshop reality. A lot of tough talk and I would recommend that Parents of younger children pay close attention or prescreen the game before determining if appropriate for their child.
Overall, I loved the game. Since I am old enough to understand the harshness of the game, I appreciated it. The game tries to impart some insight on factory work today -- providing facts about outsourcing labor at the end of each level. With each fact, there's always a pang of guilt, as well as an understanding that we as community need to help improve factory work.
I give this game 4 out of 5. How about you? Did you appreciate the game, too? Tell us what you thought about it by leaving a comment on Disqus below.
